Compatibility Questions

What are the system requirements for TurboLaw Document Software?

TurboLaw Document Software requires the following minimum system configuration:

  • Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 or higher (if you do not have this, the setup for TurboLaw Document Software will download and install it automatically)

In addition, TurboLaw requires Microsoft Word 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016 to display its documents, as well as Excel 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016 to display financial statements and HUD forms.

Please see below for hard drive space requirements.

TurboLaw will not work correctly with WordPerfect or Microsoft Works, and does not work correctly with Office “Click to Run” or Trial editions. TurboLaw also will not work correctly with the 64-bit versions of Word or Excel – and Microsoft recommends that most users install the 32-bit versions of Word and Excel.

TurboLaw is compatible with Windows 7 (all editions, 32-bit and 64-bit), Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 (all editions, 32-bit and 64-bit, except Windows RT), and Windows 10 (all editions, 32-bit and 64-bit, except Windows RT). TurboLaw Document Software is not currently compatible with Apple Mac OS X, however our TurboLaw Cloud service can be used from both Macs and PCs, as well as from iPads and iPhones.

An Internet connection is also highly recommended in order to receive updates, but is not required to install or use TurboLaw.

What are the network requirements for TurboLaw Document Software?

The Network Setup Assistant makes networking TurboLaw quick and easy.

For use on a network, TurboLaw simply requires a “shared” folder that can be “mapped” to a drive on each workstation. The TurboLaw program is installed on each user’s computer or workstation, while the data (the case database and documents created for each case) is kept on the shared network drive.

For example, if a shared folder called “TurboLaw” is created on a server (or another computer on the network), each workstation must be configured such that the “TurboLaw” folder appears as a “drive” in Windows Explorer. All drives in Windows Explorer are assigned letters, such as A:, C: or D:. The network drive must also be assigned a letter; this is called a “mapped network drive.”
For more information on how to set up TurboLaw on a network, please see our article on How to Network TurboLaw.

TurboLaw Cloud

How does TurboLaw Cloud work?

What do I need to use TurboLaw Cloud?

All you need to use TurboLaw Cloud is a device that can run Microsoft’s Remote Desktop Client – this includes both PCs running Windows, Macs running OS X, iOS devices (iPhone or iPad) or Android devices.

  • For Windows clients: Windows 7 or later is supported.
  • For Mac clients: OS X 10.6.8 or later is supported.
  • For iOS clients: iOS 6.x or later is supported.
  • For Android clients: Android 2.2 or later is supported.
What’s the difference between TurboLaw Cloud and TurboLaw Document Software?

We provide you with a complete “virtual” cloud-based desktop that you can access from any computer or device, and you use TurboLaw on this “virtual desktop.” This way, you don’t need to have TurboLaw installed on your computer at all – just log in to your remote desktop and you can get right to work. Yes – any data you enter into TurboLaw Cloud is securely stored on our server, which is accessible only by you and our administrators (and our administrator access is tightly controlled and logged). Conversely, if you have 2 people but only 1 person will use TurboLaw cloud at a time, you can share 1 license.

Note that if you share a license (and thus, your user login information) with another person, that person can see and access all of the same files you have in TurboLaw Cloud.
