The settings window allows you to choose several different options for how TurboLaw® Time and Billing will work. The settings window is divided into tabs, each of which contains options relating to a different section of the program.

You can choose what increment (if any) that you bill by. TurboLaw® Time and Billing uses this setting when you are recording time using the stopwatch.
The default setting is tenths of an hour, but you can select any other option, including entering your own custom billing increment. Whatever option you select, TurboLaw® Time and Billing will use that interval when converting time recorded by the stopwatch into a decimal number.
If you choose to bill for "exact time" only, TurboLaw® Time and Billing will not round your time at all - your clients will be billed for exactly the amount of time you enter, down to the second. (Note: TurboLaw® Time and Billing displays time to two decimal places, so even with "exact time" billing, the effective minimum billing interval is one one-hundreth of an hour, or 0.01 hour.)
The minimum billing interval setting only affects time recorded using the stopwatch. Time that you enter manually is not changed by this setting.
The rounding setting affects how TurboLaw® Time and Billing rounds off the time recorded when you use the stopwatch.
Round up at halfway point: When this option is selected, TurboLaw® Time and Billing will round up to the next whole increment after the time reaches the halfway point between whole inrecements (based on your minimum billing interval). For example, if you are using a minimum billing interval of tenth-hour (6 minutes), then if the stopwatch records 9 minutes, this will be rounded up to the next whole interval - in this case, 12 minutes (0.2 hours). If the stopwatch recordes 8 minutes, this will be rounded down to the previous whole interval - in this case, 6 minutes (0.1 hours). This rounding method is the default method used by TurboLaw® Time and Billing.
Always round up: When this option is selected, TurboLaw® Time and Billing will always round up to the next whole increment (based on your minimum billing interval). For example, if you are using a minimum billing interval of tenth-hour (6 minutes), then if the stopwatch records 6 minutes and 1 second, this will be rounded up to the next whole interval - in this case, 12 minutes (0.2 hours).
The rounding setting only affects time recorded using the stopwatch. Time that you enter manually is not rounded.
These are the labels that TurboLaw® Time and Billing will use when it groups your items on a bill. The default labels are "work" and "expenses," which are the labels used by TurboLaw® Time and Billing. You can change the labels if you wish - for example, you might wish to have your bills say "Services Rendered" instead of "Work."
This is the order in which items will appear on your bill. Items are always sorted by date, but you can choose whether they are sorted oldest to newest or newest to oldest. By default, TurboLaw® Time and Billing sorts from the oldest item to the newest item.
This is the text that will appear at the bottom of bills. You can type whatever you like.

Simply type your address as you would like it to appear on bills and statements.

On this tab, you can choose whether you would like the Getting Started screen to be displayed every time you start TurboLaw® Time and Billing, as well as the default finance charge rate for new clients.
This is the font that will be used in the headings of printouts.
Click Choose Bill Template to choose the template to be used when creating bills. The name of the template you are currently using is displayed just below the button.
Click Choose Statement Template to choose the template to be used when creating statements. The name of the template you are currently using is displayed just below the button.
You can choose whether to have TurboLaw® Time and Billing download updates automatically, or not to check for updates at all.
Choosing the Download updates automatically setting will cause TurboLaw® Time and Billing to check for updates periodically while you are using it and download new updates when they become available. You will be notified when a new update is available, and will have the option to install or not install it at that time.
Choosing the Don't check for updates setting will cause TurboLaw® Time and Billing to never check for updates automatically on its own. You can check for updates manually, on your own schedule, however, by clicking the Help menu and choosing Check for Updates.
You can choose whether or not to participate in the Customer Experience Improvement Program, which sends anonymous statistical information regarding how you use the program. You can change your participation at any time.
